We have Used Tires at Greg the Mechanic’s in Orillia

Used tires for a nice rim

With lots to choose from and great prices give us a call and see if we can help you save some money. A good used tire is better than a worn out bald one so if you need a single tire and don’t care if they don’t match give us a call. We also service rims change valve stems clean off that nasty crust that causes leaks all winter long and reseal with a rubber sealing compound that works great.

     Resealing Rims

When the weather gets cold its no fun filling up your tires at the pay for air places we find at the self serve gas bars. Lots of times we see people with two set of rims and tires and over time they leak so we take them all apart give them a good servicing and balance giving you a leak free winter. We also install and balance tires for $60.00 yup bring your winter or summer tires in and for $60.00 we install and balance them change the stem if it need it and if the rim has a bit of crust build up we clean it up and if need on some of the older rims we need to use some bead sealer compound its always in stock.

Book Your Test Drive

Book Your Test Drive!

Here serving  Orillia we have some awesome Car Dealerships and for the small town mechanic’s in Orillia that’s great news!  We need to all work together as a team and that’s what happens in Orillia with places like Orillia Mazda ,   Simcoe Country Chrysler ,and  Orillia Volkswagon .

The car dealerships in Orillia are great when we need that part only a dealer can provide , from that special bulb to the rim you need  for your brand new car cause that curb jumped out at you in that nasty ice storm. I also want to say In recent years the car dealerships have been competing with the likes of Canadian Tire     that’s right getting your parts at the dealership can be a better idea so when your pricing out parts make sure to give them a call!

  Orillia Used Car Dealerships

If you bought a car from a used car dealer in Orillia we here at Greg The Mechanic have seen plenty of those cars and can only say nice things for them with the likes of Freeman,s AUTOSOURCE and LA Motors not to mention all the new car dealers that sell used Cars in town it’s easy to see why the Used Car Dealers in town have a great reputation.

Machining Brake Rotors

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

We are asked all the time “is it worth machining my old brake rotors” our answer to this is yes!

Machining a brake rotor

In Orillia we machine brake rotors all the time on our FMC  brake lathe we turn your rotors and save you money. When you own a full size truck like a Ford f150 or a 1500 series GMC or maybe a newer car with a pulsation  and the rotors cost over a $100.00 or more why not spend $60.00 or so on pads $50.00 on machining $60.00 labour  total $170…$200   on a front brake job and knowing it’s going to last 30 to 50 thousand kms only because this is the second time round for those poor brake rotors and  brake calipers!

Some of the newer SUV for example a Dodge Journey the Brakes are only lasting for 40 or 50 thousand kms anyway and if you pulling a pop up trailer or something that number can be even lower. Here at Greg the Mechanic we have a good idea of what our customers would like us to do for them. We can save you some money and keep you safe!

Fixing Brake Lines In Orillia

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

Fixing and Replacing Brake Lines

Here at Greg The Mechanic we fix lots of brake lines, from small repairs to complete replacement. Greg uses rolls of line and flares the ends and runs them beside the old lines because more often than not pulling out the old lines causes more problems and no one needs that!

Brake lines rust out and blow up or seep at mounting brackets ABS pumps rust out and leak where all the lines meet we see all kinds of problems.

Chevy Caviler

This old Caviler is still in nice shape we ran new brake lines and pads and rotors on the front new rear drums and a brake service now the brakes work great!

This is one of those times I can help a student keep his moms old car on the road, most times this job we can do all the lines and bleed the system  in 5 hours at $70/hr= $350 plus a couple of rolls of line and fittings for $100.00 pads and rotors and new drums $200 in parts for just over $600.00 plus tax this cars brakes are like brand new.

This is just one of the repairs we do on brake lines, some trucks blow the main line from the front to the back over the exhaust where heat is present if the rest of the lines are still strong we can tap into the system and repair it, this is a common problem and should be done before it leaks so if you mechanic says it might leak there he might have seen it before.

The main line repair takes an hour or so but bleeding the system might take a while if all goes well a couple of hours labour and $50.00 or so for the line and fittings to me this price seems fair.

Greg Pitts pops by

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

This month we had a visit from a friend we met online Greg Pitts

The Two Gregs

Greg The Mechanic and Greg Pitts

Traveling here from Florida, Greg showed up to a hot steak dinner an ice cold beer and a big Canadian welcome.

As the day progressed, we learned that Greg has traveled all around the world meeting folks just like us and most by means of the internet.  Twitter, Facebook ,Websites are just a couple of mediums we talked about on his visit.

They all lead to how important social media is becoming and this is just one example while here Greg was able to connect with Rob my Webmaster  of course Kathy from Computertek  who hosted this person to person event and who Greg was talking to on Twitter in the very beginning.

In true Canadian style, that evening we had  big fire and showed Greg why we live in the greatest country on earth and we also got to hang out with a true American .  We had many conversations that night sitting at the picnic table, from art to cars, we even talked about the youth around the world.

I could tell Greg was concerned for his kids and what kind of life they are going to have, things we all worry about. The more we talked, the more we found we had in common, but one thing kept coming up , social media,  ya I know it sounds crazy but an Artist, a Mechanic, a Webmaster and a Computertek all got together and talked about how important social media is in their business, sounds like an old joke my dad told back in the day.

Early the the next morning the sun was out and the weather man came through sun sun sun a great day had arrived and Greg right away was inspired, drawing after drawing he must have went through ten sharpies that day everyone was so happy to get a drawing on a piece of wood

Here,s looking at you
